BMW has added the K 1200 GT to the K-Series range, which is angled to the touring category, offering more comfort, as well as more wind and weather protection.

The four-cylinder model range already consists of the sporty K 1200 RS and the luxury K 1200 LT. The K 1200 GT (Gran Turismo) design is dominated by the restyled front end, which has been reshaped with a less sharply raked windshield and additional fairing elements in the handlebar and knee areas. It is more of a touring bike, in contrast to the more sporty K 1200 RS.

The four-cylinder, four-stroke horizontal engine has a claimed top speed of 241 km/h and, at a steady 100 km/h, fuel consumption is given at 5,9 litres over 100 km. It has a tank capacity of 21 litres.

According to BMW, the new raised handlebar design provides easier control of the motorcycle. It also has an ergonomically shaped heated dual seat and re-positioned foot pegs for a more comfortable seated position.

There are additional hand guards for wind protection and new fairing elements in the leg area. These leg guards are made of soft plastic and protect against the wind, rain and cold air.

As on the RT and LT models, the windshield can be raised and lowered by 50 mm at the touch of a button, even while the motorcycle is being ridden. It can be varied from sporty, more steeply raked to a more upright position suitable for relaxed touring.

When it comes to safety, BMW Integral ABS is standard on the K 1200 GT. The partly integral system operates the front and rear brakes simultaneously when activating the hand brake. At the same time, the braking system enables active reaction to dynamic wheel load changes that occur during braking. The foot pedal operates the rear ABS brakes in the conventional manner.

There is a luggage rack, case holders and cases, which hold 56 litres (one takes 25 litres and the other 31 litres) and have convenient same-key locks and lids painted in the same colour as the motorcycle. The standard equipment includes heated grips, cruise control, rear and brake light failure warning lamp.

Price: R135 600
