Autocar has published a story indicating that BMW M development chief Albert Biermann would like to see the M division do a performance version of the 7 Series to compete with the likes of Audi’s S8, Jaguar’s XJR and Mercedes-Benz’ S63 AMG.
“I would love to compete in this area of the market,” he said. “The money is just there to pick up. An M7 would be a much different proposition to the B7 (Alpina’s version of a performance 7 Series).” Biermann said.
There are, however, no current plans in place to do this. He didn’t specify the kind of engine this competitor would have or even if it would be badged as an M7 or M Performance Model. “There’s so many nice things you could do with unlimited money,” he said.
So, it may not be a product plan just yet but if the head of this division is seeing the potential, it could signify good news.
