BMW SA’s latest update to its satellite navigation system, which is said to have nearly five times the road network coverage of the current system, will be launched on December 1.
According to the Rosslyn-based manufacturer, the update incorporates roughly 362 000 km of previously-unmapped road (adding up to a total of over 458 000 km and 25 000 points of interest countrywide).
Current BMW owners also have the opportunity to bring in their old navigation CD/DVD before December 31 and receive a 35 per cent discount (dropping the price from R1 700 to R1 100) on the purchase of the upgrade.
New points of interests include, inter alia, hospitals, libraries, museums, police stations, shopping centres, petrol stations, restaurants, hotels, schools, banks, parking lots and cinemas. Tourist destinations such as National Parks and the Garden Route are also included.
The package also offers the ability, at the touch of a button, to calculate the route to the nearest BMW dealership, and, if the vehicle is equipped with a telephone, allow drivers to dial the contact numbers of the points of interest, where provided.
