BMW revealed its intention to add a compact MPV/GT model to its future model line-up when it wheeled the Active Tourer Concept out at last year’s Paris motor Show. Now the firm looks to take the concept a step further with the imminent unveiling of a more lifestyle-oriented version.
Dubbed the Active Tourer Outdoor Concept, this second iteration of the compact plug-in hybrid will make its official debut at this year’s OutDoor exhibition in Friedrichshafen, Germany, on July 12th.
Although BMW has yet to reveal any images, it’s fair to assume that the second concept will feature numerous features aimed at the outdoorsy set: think bike/ski racks, lots of storage compartments and possibly more rugged interior appointments and exterior styling elements.
The drivetrain is likely to mirror that of the 2012 Active Tourer Concept – a turbocharged 1,5-litre three-cylinder engine mated with a lithium-ion powered electric system. The total output is rated at 140 kW/200 N.m and BMW claims a 0-100 km/h sprinting ability of below eight seconds. Unlike any previous BMW, power goes to the front wheels. BMW claims an all-electric driving range of around 30 km and a combined cycle fuel consumption figure of 2,5 litres/100 km.
