BMW CEO Norbert Reithofer has, in an interview with German motoring magazine Auto Motor und Sport, confirmed plans to build the much-rumoured X4 crossover. The expected launch date is in 2013.
Looking very much like a small X6 (images are computer renderings from Bimmerpost), the X4 will be based on the X3 but positioned above it. It will reportedly measure 4,65 metres in length and will share the X3’s strong line-up of engines, too. Due to the sloping back end, it will, of course, offer less packing space.
The X4 will be a showcase of all BMW’s latest technologies, including xDrive all-wheel drive, automatic start-stop, HUD (heads-up-display) and voice control for some functions.
