Contrary to the norm, BMW chose to launch the drop-top version of it latest generation 6 Series before it unveiled the coupé. In fact, the media ride and drive event for the world’s motoring press took place right here in sunny SA earlier this year.
BMW has now pulled the covers off the 6 Series Coupé. The styling isn’t really a surprise to anyone as we have already seen the convertible version. The new car has the same front and rear end treatment but has a more elegant, flowing, roofline.
For now we can expect the same 4,4-litre, twin-turbocharged V8 engine as found in the 650i Convertible (see April CAR for a full road test). This engine is mated with a smooth-shifting eight-speed transmission that offers driver controlled shifts via steering wheel mounted paddles.
We can expect to see the new model on showroom floors from September this year.
