Business Week has rated BP the highest-rated petroleum company in its annual 100 Best Global Brands survey, says Rui Jardim, BP’s brand programmes manager in South Africa.
Ranked in dollar terms for brand worth by global brand consultancy, Interbrand, the survey showed the BP brand had grown six per cent in value terms in the past year. Its nearest competitor, Shell, ranked 14 notches below (83rd place) due to cost cutting and benefits gained from the increased oil price. Mobil ranked eight points behind Shell.
Jardim said the group was delighted at the recognition. He attributed its success to “being consistent in its brand messaging and sharply focussed on its brand cornerstones of progression, innovation, performance and the protecting the environment”.
Last year, BP won the top spot in the annual Sunday Times/Markinor Brands and Branding survey as the most admired petroleum brand in South Africa for the third consecutive year.
