In what must be a first for a car retailer, let alone an online car retailer, Totalise Eurekar is giving British consumers a free Ford Focus 1,4 for every Saab 9-3 Aero they purchase online.
Both cars will be delivered to buyers’ homes and they will only pay for the Saab at the price that they would be charged as published on the manufacturer’s website.
In actual fact, the aim of the promotion is to highlight the difference between European and UK car prices.
The special buy-one-get-one-free offer applies to all Saab Aero 9-3 models ordered at www.eurekar.com and sold at the UK price for £26 450 (R304 000). Customers will also get a five-door Ford Focus CL 1.4 – worth £10 970 (R126 155) – in various colours, completely free of any charges.
Number plates, road tax and VAT are all covered by Eurekar. Both cars will be imported from franchised European dealers with standard pan-European warranties.
Peter Gregory from Totalise Eurekar, said there is a myth still going round that UK prices are more or less in line with European prices.
“That isn’t true at all. Consumers in this country are still paying much more than consumers on the continent and this offer shows that perfectly.
“Because of the deals we have negotiated with dealers in Europe we can actually give away a brand new car and still sell the Saab at the prices that Saab advertise on their website. This demonstrates exactly the differences in prices between us and Europe,” he said.
Saab said it doubted that anyone would be able to offer consistently good deals on the full range of Saabs.
“They’ve picked on one car basically,” said a spokesman. “If they want to compare the range they’re more than welcome to do that. It’s great they’ve picked on a car that’s desirable.”
