The Citroën C2, which will be launched in South Africa in the first quarter of next year, has won one of Europe’s most prestigious motoring awards, the “Goldenes Lenkrad” (Golden Steering Wheel), in the small car category.
Set up in 1976 to celebrate the year’s best automotive innovations, the prize is awarded by a jury of experts and celebrities. The trophy was presented to Magda Salarich, Director of Market Area, Europe at Citroën.
Unveiled at the 2003 Frankfurt Motor Show, the C2 enjoyed an enthusiastic welcome by both the public and the international press. It rounds off the Citroen’s compact range, along with C3 and C3 Pluriel, and has helped the brand to maintain strong growth in the past six years.
Three-door models, like the C2, account for more than 56 per cent of compact vehicle sales in Europe and this particular vehicle combines fresh styling levels of safety and comfort equipment worthy of a car much further up the market.
