General Motors will unveil a new advertising campaign that features the Led Zeppelin song “Rock and Roll”. It is the first the British legends have allowed their music to feature in a commercial. Actor Gary Sinise to do the voiceovers for the ads.
"We wanted an iconic piece of music from an iconic band," said Mark LaNeve, Cadillac general manager.
The ad campaign, with the tagline "Break Through," will launch during the Super Bowl football on February 3.
The "Break Through" theme will also be used in the marketing campaign during the Winter Olympics, Academy Awards, Wimbledon tennis and Ryder Cup golf along with other prime-time programming.
The commercials will showcase its latest models: the 2003 CTS sedan, 2002 Escalade EXT sport-utility pickup and next year’s 2004 XLR roadster, as well as a classic 1959 Eldorado convertible.
"The new campaign helps the luxury vehicle buyer understand that Cadillac is back with a bold new product lineup," said LaNeve.
The Escalade EXT and the CTS sedan will also have prominent roles in "The Matrix Reloaded," a sequel to the 1999 blockbuster movie "The Matrix". It will open in 2003.
The two Cadillacs will be featured in "the most elaborate vehicle chase scene ever filmed", Matrix producer Joel Silver said in a statement. "It’s beyond everyone’s wildest imagination and is truly spectacular."
Although Cadillac only bought the rights to "Rock and Roll," Kim Kosak, director of advertising and promotions for Cadillac, said more music from the Hall of Fame rock band could find its way into future Cadillac commercials.
"Led Zeppelin has expressed an interest in a broader relationship with Cadillac," Kosak said.
