The Cadillac CTS saloon and a Escalade EXT sport-utility vehicle star in a spectacular car chase in , which opens in South Africa this week.
The film is the second instalment of a trilogy, which began with The Matrix in 1999. For the Matrix Reloaded, Cadillac gave Silver Pictures 24 vehicles to use in freeway chase. Carrie-Anne Moss’s character, Trinity, drives a silver CTS and is pursued by villains in a black EXT. Trinity rides a Ducati bike during a freeway chase. The sequence runs approximately 15 minutes. About 90 stunt drivers were used.
“I believe it will be a great connection for Cadillac,” said Matrix producer Joel Silver. “It’s a situation where the car is a character too.
“You are seeing, on one hand, some of the most spectacular car chase footage ever put on film because of the amount of control we were able to bring by actually building our own freeway. And, on top of that, you have the most spectacular visual effects sequence inside this car chase. It’s very intense.”
“The Matrix Reloaded will help provide great visibility among a hip, young audience for two vehicles that embody Cadillac’s bold new spirit,” said Mark LaNeve, Cadillac general manager. “Just as The Matrix brought breakthrough technology to film, the CTS and EXT reflect Cadillac’s commitment to break through with standout styling and innovative technologies.”
is about reality being suspended and so characters jump from one car to another, while others squash vehicles by leaping on them, followed by lots of crashes. There is also a close-quarters fight between one of the lead characters and a villain inside the CTS.
General Motors’ Chevrolet SUVs, saloons and minivans were used for some of the other vehicles travelling on the freeway in the chase sequence.
