A roundup of all the action from Sunday’s Canadian Grand Prix.
Lap 1: Juan-Pablo Montoya gets the jump and Rubens Barrichello flies through into second. It’s a clean start and everyone gets through the first corner okay. Kimi Raikkonen’s made a mega start to leap into fourth place ahead of Ralf Schumacher as they finish the first lap. Barrichello passes Montoya at the end of the first lap. He just drives past the Williams on the start-finish straight.
Lap 2: Pedro de la Rosa has come into the pits after clipping the wall on lap 1. Barrichello looks to be on a two-stopper.
Lap 3: Barrichello is 0,8s ahead of Montoya and he has just set a fastest lap with a 1m18,7s.
Lap 4: Order – Barrichello, Montoya, Michael Schumacher, Raikkonen, Ralf, David Coulthard, Nick Heidfeld, Giancarlo Fisichella. Fisichella made a poor start and has dropped back to eighth. Barrichello is flying away at the head of the field.
Lap 5: Takuma Sato challenges Olivier Panis in the fight for 13th along the start-finish straight.
Lap 6: Montoya is 1,4s behind Barrichello and he’s a further 2s ahead of Schumacher in the other Ferrari.
Lap 7: Salo has just moved past Jacques Villeneuve to take 11th place at the hairpin. It looks as though the Finn is on a two-stop strategy.
Lap 8: Sato has passed Panis for 12th place as Ralf cruises up behind the back of Raikkonen’s McLaren. Barrichello has just set the fastest lap… He’s definitely on a two-stopper.
Lap 9: Sato passes Villeneuve and then lets him back through on the start-finish straight.
Lap 10: Order – Barrichello, Montoya, Schumacher, Raikkonen, Ralf, Coulthard, Heidfeld, Fisichella. Villeneuve is out of the race… His BAR crawls to a halt on the track on the back-straight.
Lap 11: Enrique Bernoldi has passed Panis down the start-finish straight but he did so after cutting the chicane.
Lap 12: Ralf is now within striking distance of Raikkonen and a move could be in the offing soon. Ralf runs wide into the first corner as he tries to get close to Raikkonen.
Lap 13: The gap between Rubens and Montoya is now 3,8s and the Colombian is 3,2s ahead of Schumacher. The safety car is standing by… Stewards are still trying to move Villeneuve’s car.
Lap 14: Barrichello has just set another new lap record with a 1m16,9s. The safety car has been deployed! They want to move Villeneuve’s car as Montoya pits! It seems he is on a two-stopper after all!
Lap 15: The field is now lining up behind the safety car as Montoya rejoins halfway through the pack.
Lap 16: The field will do another lap behind the safety car as Villeneuve’s BAR is still on the edge of the track. Bernoldi’s making a second stop under the safety car. He seems to have a major problem with his right rear wheel. The tyre has not gone on properly.
Lap 17: The cars are racing again as the safety car has pulled in. The Ferraris have got the jump and are racing ahead at the front of the field. Montoya is in fifth right behind his team-mate. Will Ralf let him through? Bernoldi pulls into the pits to retire.
Lap 18: Ralf misses the chicane and draws up alongside Raikkonen’s McLaren on the start-finish straight. Montoya gets the jump on both of them and rockets through up into third from fifth.
Lap 19: Ralf tries to go around the outside of Raikkonen at the first corner but brakes too late.
Lap 20: Barrichello is flying now. He’s two seconds ahead of Schumacher after setting a time of 1m16,6s on the last lap.
Lap 21: Order – Barrichello, Schumacher, Montoya, Raikkonen, Coulthard, Heidfeld, Fisichella.
lap 22: Barrichello does a 1m16,1s to smash the lap record.
Lap 23: Raikkonen is still under big pressure from Ralf. The Finn’s car is shedding a lot of brake dust. He might have braking difficulty later on in the race.
Lap 24: Montoya is now seven seconds behind Schumacher. It looks as though the race is falling into the hands of the Ferrari.
Lap 25: Barrichello is now 4,5s ahead of Schumacher, who is nine seconds ahead of Montoya.
Lap 26: Salo stops in his Toyota for the first time as the Ferrari pit crew get ready for a stop. Barrichello is in the pits. He gets out again in nine seconds and rejoins in sixth place.
Lap 27: Button looks to have clipped the wall at the final corner of the lap.
Lap 28: Barrichello is stuck behind Coulthard who is holding the Brazilian up. Schumacher now leads by 12,8s and he seems to have the race under control.
Lap 29: Schumacher pulled out nearly two seconds on Montoya in the last lap and he is flying in the lead. Montoya is only 2,5s ahead of Raikkonen.
Lap 30: Order – Schumacher, Montoya, Raikkonen, Ralf, Coulthard, Barrichello, Heidfeld, Fisichella. Montoya is falling back into the clutches of Raikkonen again. It looks as though the Colombian has a problem.
Lap 31: Scumacher has just set a new lap record with a 1m16 dead.
Lap 32: Barrichello is now dropping back from Coulthard.
Lap 33: Schumacher is lapping, on average, one second a lap quicker than Montoya and the rest of his pursuers.
Lap 34: Ralf can still not doing anything about Raikkonen’s McLaren. Montoya is pulling away from the battle for third place.
Lap 35: Coulthard continues to pull away form Barrichello’s Ferrari as Ralf continues to pressure Raikkonen.
Lap 36: Schumacher is now 21 seconds ahead of Montoya.
Lap 37: Schumacher sets yet another new lap record with a 1m15,9s as he comes into the pits for his stop. Schumacher gets out again in 11s after quite a slow and he comes out in second place ahead of Raikkonen, Ralf battle.
Lap 38: Button has also stopped. He has got away with clipping the wall on a couple of occasions.
Lap 39: Heidfeld has been called in for a drive-through penalty for speeding.
Lap 40: Order – Montoya, Schumacher, Raikkonen, Ralf, Coulthard, Barrichello, Fisichella.
Lap 41: Montoya is now 4s ahead of Schumacher.
Lap 42: The Williams mechanics are coming into the pits to get ready for Ralf’s pit stop. He comes down the pit-lane. The fuel rig is broken and they have to change. They may have to bring him in again for more fuel
Lap 43: Irvine is out after his a blow up
Lap 44: Montoya is now 6,8s ahead of Schumacher and he is pulling away. The Williams pit crew are getting ready again for Ralf. This time the fuel goes in and he gets out again in 8s as Raikkonen stops.
Lap 45: Fisichella has also stopped in the Jordan. Schumacher is still falling back from Montoya.
Lap 46: Schumacher is now nine seconds behind Montoya. The Colombian will need about 24s to keep him in front of Schumacher after his second pit stop.
Lap 47: The Colombian is pulling out at about 0,3s every sector as Alan McNish spins to a halt coming out of the first chicane. The safety car may be coming out but they have dragged the Toyota out of the way.
Lap 48: Order – Montoya, Schumacher, Coulthard, Barrichello, Raikkonen, Fisichella, Trulli, Ralf.
Lap 49: Coulthard has stopped and has gained track position ahead of his team-mate.
Lap 50: Order – Montoya, Schumacher, Barrichello, Coulthard, Raikkonen, Fisichella, Trulli, Ralf.
Lap 51: Montoya has set a new lap record with a 1m15,9s. The Colombian comes into the pits. He gets out again in 8,2s but he is now relegated to third.
Lap 52: Ferrari are now running first and second but it looks as though Barrichello will have to stop again.
Lap 53: Barrichello is now right behind Schumacher but he ends up pitting at the end of the lap anyway.
Lap 54: Montoya is now only six seconds behind the leading Ferrari as Barrichello rejoins the race in fourth, just behind Coulthard.
Lap 55: Order – Schumacher, Montoya, Coulthard, Barrichello, Raikkonen, Fisichella.
Lap 56: Montoya’s out! His BMW engine blows up on the start-finish straight and the Colombian pulls off the track.
Lap 57: Order – Schumacher, Coulthard, Barrichello, Raikkonen, Fisichella, Trulli, Ralf, Heidfeld.
Lap 58: Barrichello is challenging Coulthard’s Mclaren for second place.
Lap 59: Ralf is now tucked right up behind the back of Trulli’s Renault in the battle for sixth.
Lap 60: Coulthard gets caught behind Sato going into the hairpin and Barrichello gets alongside going into the final chicane. Both drivers cut across the chicane but the Scot keeps the position.
Lap 61: It looks as though Fisichella is on target for his third consecutive fifth place finish in the Jordan Honda.
Lap 62: Barrichello is now right up with Coulthard.
Lap 63: Coulthard is holding sway in the battle for second as Barichello has dropped back again.
Lap 64: Ralf is still bottled up behind Trulli in seventh place. He needs to pass the Italian in order to get a share of the points.
Lap 65-66: Barrichello is going to have one final attempt to pass Coulthard’s McLaren.
Lap 67: Order – Schumacher, Coulthard, Barrichello, Raikkonen, Fisichella, Trulli, Ralf, Heidfeld.
Lap 68: Coulthard is closing in on Schumacher who is letting the battle for second. The gap is now down to six seconds.
Lap 69: The gap is down to four seconds on the final lap. Maybe he’s going to try and help Rubens get second off DC
Finish: Michael Schumacher cruises over the line to claim his sixth victory of the season and Ferrari’s 150th all-time win. Coulthard takes second for McLaren, followed by Barrichello in third, Raikkonen in fourth and great efforts from Fisichella and Trulli net fifth and sixth for Jordan and Renault respectively.
