Michael Schumacher has given his victor’s trophy from the Hungarian Grand Prix to his team-mate Rubens Barrichello and vowed to help him win a race this season.
He said he owed the Brazilian after he moved over to allow Schumacher to take second in Austria earlier this season.
The German praised Barrichello’s team work. “It is not by luck that since he has arrived in the team we have won two championships,” said Schumacher. “He has contributed to that.
“When he goes testing I know I can relax with my family because I know he is doing the job well. That’s the way we work and all together we have moved a step up to where we are now.
“To some degree if I can help him you can be sure I will and that is the way team work has to be.”
Team boss Jean Todt also praised Barrichello. “Rubens drove a stupendous race which have us the constructors title. Michael has given him the winner’s trophy from this race.”
Barrichello, in turn, said he was proud to be Schumacher’s team-mate. “I’m part of the party after all, fantastic team and a fantastic achievement. But it is not just co-incidence we won the whole time since I arrived. It is something I am very proud of. I am proud to be beside Michael and he really deserves this title,” he said.
