Short on the heels of the new C-Class sedan’s launch, Mercedes-Benz announced plans for additional variants, other than the coupe, station wagon and AMG models.
Mercedes’ R&D boss, Thomas Weber, recently hinted that a new four-door coupe to rival BMW’s 4-Series Gran Coupe may be launched.
“Yes, there is room between the CLA and the CLS,” Weber is reported to have said. “We are intensively looking at remaining niches that will provide us with profitability and growth.”
If Mercedes continues with plans to launch the said four-door variant of its latest C-Class, the automaker might revive its CLC badge that did duty on a two-door C-Class from 2008 to 2011.
Weber also stated that Mercedes is establishing four extra plants across the globe for C-Class production and that this expansion is a clear message that Mercedes-Benz plans on growing its line-up.
Thanks to the adoption of a modular platform and production strategies, new models will be added much quicker and for less money than before.
