Toyota’s new family face first seen on the Verso has been transplanted onto the Corolla and, with its increased specification levels, this popular saloon will win greater favour with a legion of fans.
The exterior styling changes to the Corolla include the new front end with a restyled grille and front bumper. The rear has been updated too with a new light cluster.
Five new metallic paint finishes – Dark Red Mica, Light Blue Mica, Silver, Champagne, and Dark Green Mica – have been added. With the existing Black Mica, Dark Blue Mica, and White, the latest Corolla’s palette is complete.
The interior now comes with an industrial two-tone grey finish across the range for dashboard and door inserts. The colours and designs for the seats have also been revisited. The top-specced 160i- and 180i GSX now have a smoked wood finish to the centre console.
Ten models feature in the Corolla range and all will feature five-speed manual transmissions. The 160i GLE and 180i GSX are offered with a four-speed automatic transmission.
In the new line up, the 180i GLE is replaced by a new model, the 180i GLS and the Corolla 180i GLS Auto is replaced with the 180i GSX Auto with an increased specification level.
Available in four specification levels, the basis specification levels offered on the 1,4- and 1,6-litre derivatives include disc brakes at the front and rear, power steering, engine exhaust catalyst and four-bulb halogen headlamps. The GLE specification offered on the same models have added air-conditioning, a radio/CD player, height adjustable drivers seats and a multi-function trip computer.
GLS and GSX derivatives come with a number of added extras. These include: a radio with six CD shuttle and steering mounted remote controls, remote electric mirrors and, in GSX models, one-touch power windows for all doors.
GLS versions now also have driver and front passenger airbags with seat belt pretensioners and force limiters, and ABS with EBD. Electric front windows and remote electric mirrors with a radio with six CD shuttle and steering mounted remote controls are also standard for the GLS.
The GSX comes with one-touch power windows all round, front fog lamps, leather inserts and a climate control air-conditioner.
All Corollas come with a five-year/90 000 km service plan, covering all specified service items including parts and labour, but excluding wear-and-tear items. A three-year/100 000 km warranty with roadside assistance is also offered.
