Volkswagen South Africa (VWSA) has added cruise control as an optional extra on its Polo TDI models. If specified, the option will add R1 270 to the price of the 1,4 TDI, Classic 1,4 TDI and just-launched 1,9 TDI models.
“All Volkswagen Polo TDI models offered on the South
African market will have cruise control as an optional extra,” said VWSA Product PR Songezo Zibi. “The Golf and Jetta ranges already offer this product as an option, together with the multi-function steering wheel, which is not offered on the Polo.”
CARtoday.com reported earlier this week that Volkswagen had added the sporty 1,9 TDI three-door, crammed with even more features than the 1,4 TDI flagship, to its Polo range.
The 1,9 TDI produces 74 kW at 4 000 r/min and a maximum torque output of 240 N.m. Transferred to the front wheels by a five-speed manual gearbox, VW claims the Polo goes from standstill to 100 km/h in 10,7 sec, with a top speed of 188 km/h.
It has a dual-tone hooter, a first for Polos, front-loading six-CD changer, remote central locking and alarm/immobiliser.
Safety features include: front passenger and driver airbags with pyrotechnic pretensioner safety belts. It also has ABS brakes with electronic brake distribution software as standard, assisted by disc brakes all round.
