The convertible Cruiser will be available in Standard, Touring and Grand Touring (GT) models.

The Touring model features a 134 kW 2,4-litre turbocharged engine with automatic transmission. All the standard features are included, with the addition of a convertible top boot, speed control and a tuner with CD player.

The top-of-the-range GT has an output of 164kW turbocharged engine with a five-speed manual transmission. Standard features on this model include performance-tuned suspension with ABS, side airbags and low-speed traction control amongst others.

"Our engineers wanted to make the PT Cruiser Convertible a convertible that you can actually do things with," said a US spokesperson. "Nine different seat configurations and a pass-through boot opening make the car very versatile."

Prices stated for the US market start at a comparative R142 000 for the base model and reach R196 000 for the top-of-the-range model.
