Chemetall took top honours at Delta Motor Corporation’s Supplier of the Year awards in Port Elizabeth last week.
Chemetall, which supplies the primers and sealers for the Delta paint shop, was named overall supplier of the year for 2002 ahead of 17 other suppliers. It was rated high in terms of quality, delivery and problem solving. Chemetall has won the chemical category eight times.
Faurecia Autoplastics was named winner of the Sils and Kanban category, which covers suppliers who deliver materials direct to the production line. LUK Africa took the honours in the metallic category, while East Cape Wiring emerged the winner of the electrical category.
A newcomer to the event, LN Manufacturing, claimed its first win in the Indirect Procurement category.
Delta Procurement and Engineering Director Evan Dold said the challenge for suppliers was to remain internationally cost competitive without undue reliance on the Motor Industry Development Programme or a weak currency, particularly in view of anticipated competition from other low cost countries.
