Hyundai has divulged the first details regarding a hot version of its quirky Veloster Turbo, set to be unveiled today at the Detroit Auto Show.
These three images have leaked onto to the internet, and the main body and stylistic changes compared to the standard Veloster are quite noticeable. The front features more aggressive styling while the extended side sills, roof spoiler and more pronounced twin-exhaust pipes clearly show the sporty intent of this four-door (two doors on the right hand side) hatchback.
Whereas the standard Veloster features a naturally aspirated 1,6-litre petrol engine, the turbocharged model increases power from 103 kW to 150 kW. The torque figure is said to be 265 Nm. Transmission options include a six-speed manual or a dual-clutch.
With these power figures, the Veloster Turbo will take on competition such as the Volkswagen Polo GTI and even Golf GTI, as well as the Mini Cooper JCW and the Renault Clio RS.
A spokesperson for Hyundai Automotive South Africa confirmed that the Veloster will arrive in South Africa this year, but couldn’t confirm which models will become available in the line-up. The company would, however, like to include the Turbo in the South African model line-up.
