Next month, Toyota will launch one of its most important volume sellers on the local market, the new Yaris hatch.
Showed for the first time to the South African media and public at the current Johannesburg International Motor Show (JIMS), it seems the new Yaris will offer two engines during its initial launch period.
The range will kick off with a three-cylinder 1,0-litre VVT-i petrol engine that develops 51 kW and 93 N.m. Fuel consumption is claimed to be only 4,8 litres/100 km on the combined cycle, which means the CO2 emissions will sit at 110 g/km.
Second in line is the 1,3-litre VVT-i four-cylinder petrol engine that offers 73 kW and 123 N.m. Fuel consumption rises to 5,2 litres/100 km (119 g/km). Both models offer 286 dm3 luggage space while the fuel tank will be able to swallow 42 litres of fuel.
Toyota has moved away from the interior design of the current Yaris where the instrument cluster was situated towards the centre of the dashboard. Now it has moved back to behind the steering wheel. Certain models will also feature a multi-function steering wheel and infotainment system.
Be sure to look out for the full details of the new Yaris in the near future as well as a driving impression.
