An interprovincial DJ Challenge has been added to the attractions of the Knysna Speed Festival, currently happening in the picturesque Western Cape town, which will see four radio show hosts battle for the honour of being named “fastest DJ up the hill.
The four DJs are from all corners of South Africa, and are arguably some of the edgiest in the country. Representing Good Hope FM is Deon Daniels (aka Ready D), with Daron Mann from Algoa FM, Jeremy Harris from KFM and Arod from Jacaranda FM.
They’ll all be behind the wheel of title sponsor Renault’s Megane RS, and even though the aim of the challenge is to promote the festival even further into South Africa and the enjoyment of motorsport – expect the DJs to get competitive as the excitement builds.
Besides being one of the drawcard names on the clubbing scene and recently host of a popular evening show on GoodHope FM, Ready D is also a keen drifter – which might prove to be to his advantage…or disadvantage.
“I am excited about being a part of this initiative. I hope I have not lost my groove straight lining and not sliding since my involvement with drifting."
After spending time with the his steed, Ready D seems set for the challenge and a “level of confidence knowing that this car is a phenomenal handling machine.”
The Gauteng radio stations are also represented by confident DJs. “I’ve never been to the Knysna Speed Festival before and so I’m really looking forward to being part of the excitement, the adrenalin, the revving of engines and all the fun, and to meeting as many people as possible,” says Jeremy Harris.
Arod is just as amped for the experience. “I am so looking forward to the challenge. I have never done anything like this before and think the other radio stations better watch out. I cannot wait to see what it's going to be like to push a car to the limit and what better car to do it in than the RS!!”
Having learned to drive the hard way in Johannesburg, Daron Mann has had his skill honed, but remains modest about his chances. “If I was a betting man I would not bet on me to win!”
There is a DJ Challenge poll on the Speed Festival website, and fans are encouraged to vote for their favourite DJ. www.facebook.com/KnysnaSpeedFestival
