Volkswagen of South Africa has announced that it will now offer the 90 kW 1,4 TSI versions of the Comfortline Golf and Jetta with the option of a 7-speed DSG transmission.
Both models will see the award winning 1,4-litre TSI petrol engine, which develops 90 kW and 200 N.m of torque between 1 500-4 000 r/min, available with the company’s 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. It’s a combination that Volkswagen claims will see a fuel consumption gain of up to 12 per cent compared with a manual gearbox and 20 per cent compared with a conventional torque converter automatic. Both models share identical claimed CO2 and fuel consumption figures standing at 138 g/km and 6,0L/100 km, respectively.
The DSG-equipped Golf will complete the 0-100 km/h sprint in 9,5 seconds with the Jetta completing the same feat in 9,8 seconds. The top speeds for the Golf and Jetta are limited to 200 km/h and 202 km/h, respectively.
Comfortline specification for the Golf sees the inclusion of such features as ABS with EBD and ASR, ESP with hill-hold, front and side airbags for the driver and passenger, curtain airbags, cruise control, daytime running lights, three-spoke leather steering wheel, air-conditioning, rain-sensing wipers, radio/CD/MP3 audio system, power steering, 16-inch alloy wheels and multifunction on-board computer with the Jetta adding an electronically locking differential to the aforementioned items.
Both models come standard with a 5 year/90 000 km Service Plan and a 3 year/ 120 000 km warranty.
