Nissan will showcase a new concept sport-utility vehicle, the Dunehawk, at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September. The manufacturer says it is “a vision of how a Nissan 4×4 of tomorrow could look”.
According to , the Dunehawk is a mid-sized 4×4 aimed at the “active family of tomorrow”. It is equipped with a second generation of Nissan’s all mode 4×4 system, first seen on the X-TRAIL. Nissan says the Dunehawk combines genuine off-roading ability without compromising on-road performance.
Nissan is also displaying a fuel cell-powered X-Trail prototype, fresh from the completion of its road test programme. The manufacturer says it is 100 per cent environmentally friendly with zero emissions. This vehicle will form the basis of a FCV, which will go into test production this year.
Central to the continued rise in Nissan’s European sales is the expansion of the manufacturer’s diesel range. The Japanese company will be showing a new 60 kW version of the Micra 1,5 dCi in Frankfurt, which follows the introduction of the 48 kW variant of the same engine earlier this year in Europe.
The launch of the 60 kW 1,5dCi Micra completes a phase of diesel engine introductions giving Nissan a diesel engine option in every sector of the market – from the Micra to the Patrol GR. The diesel range now consists of five different displacements: 1,5-, 1,9-, 2,2-, 2,5-, and 3,0-litre, with nine different outputs.
The Frankfurt motor show will also mark the official start of European sales for the Nissan 350Z, a two-seater, which incorporates chassis technology developed on the racetrack.
The potent 3,5-litre V6 engine develops 206 kW and is mounted behind the front axle to provide the optimum front/rear weight distribution. Drive is to the rear wheels. Top speed is electronically limited to 250 km/h, with a claimed 0-100 km/h sprint of six seconds. It is due in South Africa later this year.
