Range Rover will offer the Evoque in two guises when it goes on sale in 160 markets across the globe from mid-2011.
“Prestige” specification will see the Evoque rolling on a set of model-specific 19-inch alloy wheels and sporting metallic details around key points of the exterior. According the Land Rover, this model’s interior will be “almost entirely leather-wrapped.”
The “Dynamic” specification introduces more aggressive exterior detailing, such as a bolder front air dam, model-specific bumpers, sills and exhaust pipes, a contrasting roof spoiler and sportier 19-inch rims. The interior will offer sports seats with brightly-coloured central panels.
Range Rover claims that the Evoque’s turbocharged powerplant line-up blends four-cylinder frugality with the power and refinement often associated with six-cylinder units. A revised version of the company’s 2,2-litre turbodiesel developing 140 kW will be offered alongside a new 2,0-litre Si4 petrol unit with 177 kW on tap. The petrol engine features direct fuel injection, turbocharging and variable-valve timing. Additional measures such as engine start/stop measure will help keep fuel consumption down and bring CO2 emissions into the sub-150g/km bracket.
In keeping with Range Rover’s go-anywhere ethos, the Evoque will be fitted with the latest version of the company’s Terrain Response module as part of its permanent four-wheel drive system. Range rover also claims that the Evoque’s breakover, departure and approach angles will be considerably better than those of comparable compact SUVs.
Range Rover’s engineers have tuned the Evoque’s chassis and electric power steering system in such a way as to lend the car a nimble on-road feel. An adaptive dynamics system utilising MagneRide dampers will also help reign in excessive body-roll under spirited driving.
Among the optional technological niceties earmarked for this model are a touch-screen infotainment system with Bluetooth, USB input and iPod connectivity, a 600W 10-speaker sound system, park distance control, dual-zone climate control, keyless entry and go, adaptive headlamps and rear seat entertainment package with 8-inch screens and wireless headphones.
