Formula Gti, Formula Vee, SA Production Car and Sascar competitors will share the limelight with their off-road counterparts at Auto Africa this week.
CARtoday.com reported last week that competitors in the Bankfin National Off-Road Championship would be on display at the Bankfin Off-Road Expo. The exhibition will be held at the Nasrec amphitheatre, adjacent to the main entrances at Gates 3 and 4, from October 23 to 27.
The organisers of the event have since announced that production and special vehicle categories, off-road motorcycles and quads will be joined by “around half a dozen cars each from Formula Vee and Formula Gti “.
In addition, the powerboat brigade is expanding its presence at the Bankfin Off Road Expo. Three boats from the premier Formula One category will be on display, along with an F30 boat, two Junior Formula boats and a development boat.
Insofar as off-roaders are concerned, a number of factory and privateer vehicles campaigning in the Production Vehicle category will be on view. These include a variety of Toyota Motorsport entrants, a works Nissan Hardbody Class D entry, the new Lada team, a variety of Land Rovers, including Cliff Barker and Marius Boersma’s class T machines, the Playstation Mitsubishi Pajero of Henri and Maurice Zermatten and two N1 4×4 vehicles.
The Special Vehicle class will be represented by Giel Nel’s Class B championship-winning Luk Africa Truggy, a Nashua Mobile Racing vehicle and enduro motorcycle, and various Sandmaster and Mighty Mag entries – among others.
The O’Hagan’s/Kopanong Hotel Superteam will display two of its vehicles – the BMW Jimco and Jeep, both of which will compete in the Queen Motor Spares Tarka 400 in the Eastern Cape on November 1 and 2.
“The Bankfin Off-Road Championship fraternity saw Auto Africa as an ideal outlet to further take the sport to the people,” said MSA Off-Road Car Racing Commission president Piet Swanepoel. “The growing number of participants from across the motorsport spectrum is proof the concept is working, and off-road racing is more than happy to share the limelight with other formulas.”
“In times where motorsport is facing increasing competition from other sports and leisure activities, we have to take every opportunity to display our wares,” he added.
