Suzuki’s diminutive yet extremely capable Jimny has just been under the knife for subtle cosmetic enhancements. The changes allow the Jimny to retain its unmistakable look while aiming for a slightly edgier profile.
The biggest changes are up front, with a newly designed grille (more pronounced vertical bars, a larger air intake in the front bumper, new foglamp recesses at either end of the bumper and a bonnet bulge for a touch of aggression). Inside, the Jimny’s passengers will now benefit from redesigned head restraints (front and rear) for improved comfort and support. The new head restraints also allow for the rear seats to be folded flat without being removed.
Among the interior enhancements are also new cloth upholstery and the inclusion of Isofix child seat mounts, a safety feature supplemented by ABS, three-point inertia reel safety belts and dual front airbags. As has always been the case, the Jimny is also loaded with standard features like air-conditioning, remote central locking, electrically operated windows and mirrors, FM/AM receiver with front-loading CD player and integrated alarm/immobiliser system.
At the heart of the Jimny lies Suzuki’s robust 1,3-litre four-cylinder engine that produces 63 kW at 6 000 r/min and 110 N.m of torque at 4 100 r/min. The powerplant sends torque through a five-speed manual gearbox and a low-range transfer case.
It retails for R198 900, which includes a four-year/60 000 km service plan and three-year/100 000 km warranty.
