While we previously showed you what happens when you get it wrong in a Ferrari at Laguna Seca’s famous Corkscrew (here), this video shows you how to do it properly.
During the same Ferrari Challenge (Corsa Clienti) weekend as the 458 race accident occured, team Scuderia rolled out Rubens Barrichello’s old F2003-GA Ferrari for a few demonstration laps. With ex-F1 driver Marc Gene at the wheel (and a GoPro attached to the car) Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca was filled with the sounds of a screaming Ferrari V10 as Gene turned up the wick.
Because the fastest lap of 1:05.78 was recorded during an exhibition event and not a sanctioned race weekend, it has to be listed as the “unofficial” new lap record. Regardless, we think it’s pretty cool! Telemetry from another (slower) run indicated that the car pulled more than 2G through the Corkscrew.
The official lap record remains 1:07.722, set by Helio Castroneves in a Penske Champ Car during qualifying for the 2000 CART Honda Grand Prix of Monterey.
