Images of Fiat’s upcoming crossover have been leaked onto the ‘web ahead of the car’s official unveiling later this year.
We’ve already had a taste of what to expect from the Fiat 500X via a photo taken at motoring press event in Turin last year, but the latest crop of images reveal a raised ride height and protective lower-body body cladding.
According to reports from last year’s event the 500X will sit on the 500L compact MPV’s chassis, which could be slightly stretched to accommodate the all-wheel drivetrain, and will be offered in a choice of front- and all-wheel variants. It’s likely that a good deal of the mechanicals underpinning the Fiat 500X will be shared with an entry-level Jeep model, currently codenamed B-SUV.
The engine line-up has yet to be confirmed but it’s safe to assume that it will largely echo that of the 500L; namely a 1,4-litre petrol unit developing 69 kW for the entry-level front-wheel drive model and a 2-cylinder TwinAir engine displacing 1,0-litres and developing 77 kW. A couple of Multijet diesels are also expected to join the range at a later date.
There’s a good chance that this model will make its official debut at this year’s Geneva Motor Show in March.
