Fiat Auto South Africa is going on a big product offensive this year, with six new additions to its stable.
The Fiat range of vehicles will soon be extended to include the Multipla and Doblo’Cargo. The Alfa Romeo range will soon see the Alfa 156 GTA, 156 2,4 JTD as well as the Alfa 147 GTA and 1,9 JTD which will all be locally available by December 2003.
The Fiat Multipla will be a 1,9 JTD ELX. The six-seater mini-MPV has two rows of three seats each. The Fiat Doblo’ Cargo is a light commercial vehicle and will be available locally with a 1,9 diesel engine.
<P.”The Fiat Multipla epitomises engineering creativity and progressive styling, both traditional Fiat strongholds. The Doblo’ Cargo offers a spacious and secure alternative to the bakkie with which we will expand our competence in commercial vehicles,” said Michael Burkhart, general manager for marketing.
The Alfa 156 GTA has a sporty 3,2 V6 24V power unit, while the Alfa 156 2,4 JTD is a newcomer to South Africa. The five-cylinder commonrail turbodiesel engine produces 110 kW and a claimed top speed of 212 km/h. The Alfa 147 GTA and 147 1.9 JTD will be launched in the second half of 2003.
“This promises to be a remarkable year for both Fiat and Alfa Romeo. The product additions for the Fiat brand will allow our dealers to take advantage of growing segments in the market. The new Alfa Romeo diesel-powered products will quickly establish Alfa Romeo as a top contender in this area,” Burkhart said.
