Ford fans will be glad to hear that the new RS (in mule form) has been caught testing at the ‘Ring. It will be powered by the new 2,3-litre, four-cylinder, EcoBoost engine, also powering the new entry-level Mustang. Rumour has it that it will deliver more than 240 kW in the Ford Focus RS and drive the front wheels through a limited slip differential.
Ford will again call on its RevoKnuckle suspension geometry (similar to previous Focus RS) to curb excessive torque steer when the vehicle is driven in anger. The fast Ford should hit the showrooms in 2015/2016, but Ford South Africa is keeping tight-lipped about the local introduction date, price and expected numbers. Only 60 units of the previous RS was brought in so best is to keep your deposit money ready.
The long expected Honda Civic Type R (around 225 kW) should arrive on our shores late in 2015 so we can see an almighty challenge for the crown of the ultimate FWD hot hatch in the future and will keep you posted.
