Sources suggest that FMCSA will soon re-introduce the Indian-built and Fiesta-based Ikon saloon to the local market… But whereas the Ikon we know was based on the previous-generation Fiesta, the new one should be significantly more modern.
The new Ikon (shown here) is based on the platform of the current Fiesta and will be made available with a choice of three engines. A 1,4-litre unit that produces 60 kW and 128 N.m of torque, a 1,6-litre petrol making 75 kW and 146 N.m, and a 1,4-litre turbodiesel that develops 50 kW and boasts 160 N.m of torque.
While weight is believed to be well under 1 200 kg, the car is 4 282 mm long, 1 686 mm wide, and 1468 mm high. Having said that, the newcomer will reportedly be priced to compete with the Opel Corsa Classic and VW’s Polo Classic.
Styling-wise, the new Ikon resembles the Fiesta saloon that’s currently available India, but in South Africa, the newcomer will boast higher specification levels than in its country of origin, and will be backed by Ford’s usual 3 years/100 000 km warranty.
If specs on the Indian Fiesta are anything to go by, then expect Keyless Entry, ABS with EBD, power steering, side door intrusion beams, front and rear power windows, tilt adjustable steering column, and air-conditioning.
