Audi is readying a four-pronged assault on the premium performance market with the introduction of the RS5 Cabriolet, RS6 Avant, RS7 Sportback and RS Q3 at the end of 2013.
AAn Audi promo piece touting the unveiling of four RS-badged models for 2013 was showcased during the official reveal of the RS5 Cabriolet.
The image shows the red drop-top stationed before three other models under wraps. The sizeable box-ended entity beside it has to be the RS6 Avant, a model that Audi has already showcased in a preliminary promo video (see bottom of the post).
We’ve now learned from a reliable source that the svelte-looking model next to the RS6 Avant is the eagerly anticipated RS7 Sportback. Given the furore surrounding the recently revealed BMW M6 Gran Coupe and the popularity of the Mercedes-Benz CLS63 AMG, it makes sense for Audi to give its A7 Sportback some additional firepower under the bonnet and join the fray. The source of said firepower has yet to be divulged, but it’s likely to come from the same highly tuned 4,0-litre V8 biturbo engine developing 412 kW and 700 N.m of torque in the RS6 Avant.
The rearmost model is a production version of the RS Q3 concept, which is powered by a 2,5-litre five-cylinder turbopetrol with 265 kW on tap.
These developments mean that the Audi RS line-up will comprise a formidable nine models: RS3 Sportback, RS4 Avant, RS5 Coupe and Cabriolet, RS6 Avant, RS7 Sportback, TT RS Coupe and Roadster and RS Q3.
