Fraudulent competition uses Toyota name

Toyota South Africa Motors (TSAM) has been made aware of a new scam in which a cash prize is promised on behalf of Toyota to unsuspecting cell phone owners.

As part of this scam a person receives an sms in which they are informed of the fact that they have won a large cash prize. They are in turn asked for their banking details and requested to deposit an amount of money into a bank account.

Toyota has not initiated any competition of this kind and will not request any winner of any competition it runs to deposit money into a bank account. The company has reported this scam to the relevant authorities and have promised their full cooperation.

People who receive this message are requested to ignore it.
