The revised i20 has just been launched in South Africa. With a new face, a revised interior, a change to the engine line-up and more space, this new Korean hatch is intended to appeal to a younger group of car buyers.
The new i20 has now adopted the Hyundai Fluidic Sculpture design language that is meant to express a feeling of motion. It also features the hexagonal grille that can be seen across the Hyundai range, as well as new-look halogen headlamps. At the back there’s a new bumper design and fresh taillamps. All these redesigned features have added to the length of the car. It now stands at 3 995 mm long. The overall width, height and wheelbase are the same as the outgoing i20’s.
There are three i20 derivatives available, Fluid, Glide and Fluid AT. All three models are powered by a four-cylinder, 1,4-litre petrol engine that delivers 73 kW and 136 N.m of torque. In the Fluid and Glide models, this engine is mated with a six-speed manual transmission, while the Fluid AT comes equipped with a four-speed automatic. Fuel consumption is 4,2 L/100 km for the manual and 4,8 for the automatic i20.
Standard safety, comfort and convenience features include driver and passenger airbags (side and curtain airbags are included on the high-spec i20), front and rear fog lights, Isofix anchorages, air-conditioning and an audio system that can take CDs, MP3, iPod connections, Bluetooth, USB sticks and auxiliary devices.
