A few weeks ago you would have read about Opel’s GSI 16V “Superboss” on this site. Today we bring you the test of its old sparring partner the BMW 325 iS. This BMW was another homegrown special in the same vein as the 333i. The 325 iS, or 327 as it is sometime called, boasted a 2,7-litre inline six that produced 155 kW. The Evo II 325 iS was good for a top speed of 226 km/h, which was mighty impressive in 1991. These cars famously battled Opel at racetracks all over SA in what then known as Stannic Group N racing (for production cars). Tony Viana, Deon Joubert, Robbie Smith and co wrestled these rear-wheel drive machines to many victories over the years. Enjoy the trip down memory lane.
