No automotive enthusiast can deny the indescribable allure that surrounds any vehicle that represents “American Muscle.” Mustangs have a reputation as the quintessential muscle car. Dating back to the ’60s and after three generations of legend, fame and one questionable period, the fourth generation represented a big departure from the original boxy styling that distinguished this pony cars. CAR tested this privately-owned bright yellow Mustang GT in August 1995.
Under the skin the formula remained the same though. Drop a big V8 in a relatively compact body and make sure it’s got enough torque to light up the rear wheels. The 5,0-litre O-H-V V8 in the GT only produced approximately 160 kW, but developed a meaty 380 N.m of torque. The zero to 100 km/h sprint was completed in 7,75 seconds, with the standing kilometre registered in 28,59 seconds. A maximum speed of 225 km/h was achieved.
