Peugeot’s award-winning 406 was gathering so much attention toward the end of the 20th century that we decided to test two models at the same time for the October 1998 issue. The dual test featured the V6-powered SV saloon AT and the beautiful Pininfarina-penned 406 coupe.
Both models represented considerable bang-for-buck and were packed with features. The 3,0-litre V6 engine sent 140 kW and 267 N.m of torque to the front wheels via a four-speed automatic transmission. The lighter saloon sprinted to 100 km/h from zero in 9,87 seconds, with the coupe (which boasted a higher top speed) only marginally behind at that point.
