SsangYong has released a pair of sketches showing a more conventional and upmarket look for the Rexton’s second facelift due later this month.
The facelifted Rexton, which will find its way to the South African market during the course of 2012, features a more aggressive overall look that incorporates a rectangular chrome-louvred grille flanked by swept-back headlamps with what look like LED strips in their lower margins, prominent wheel arches, a forward-raked D-pillar and sculpted taillamps that flow into the rear arches. It’s a more conventional design that doesn’t appear to share a great deal of its detailing with any of its contemporary Korando or Actyon models.
SsangYong has not provided any concrete details regarding the latest Rexton’s underpinnings, but there’s a good chance that the platform and underpinnings will be carried over largely untouched from the existing model. The Korando’s 2,0-litre, four-cylinder diesel, developing 130 kW and 360 N.m of torque, could feature in the new model, but it’s not yet clear if the existing 2,7-litre, 5-cylinder turbodiesel unit will remain.
The Rexton will make its official debut on May 24th at the Busan Motor Show in South Korea. European sales will commence a couple of months thereafter and will be followed by South African.
