The new BMW Williams FW26, unveiled to the world on Monday, was quickest at the Jerez testing on Wednesday.
Juan Pablo Montoya completed 51 laps, the fastest being a 1m 16,669s. This was very close to the track record (1m 16,210s) held by the McLaren MP4-19 and an improvement on the Colombian’s best time at the circuit.
WilliamsBMW’s third driver, Marc Gené, was third in the second car. These results should be very encouraging for the team that has only completed a few laps since Monday’s launch.
Toyota, Renault and Ferrari all had cars out for testing. McLaren will start its testing on Thursday and BAR should start on Friday.
