Geely South Africa, now part of the Hallmark Group and Magic Group, will make its debut at this year’s Johannesburg International Motor Show, to start on Thursday 6 October for media and Saturday 8 October for members of the public.
Background
Geely is currently the largest independent car manufacturer in China. Those in the know will remember that last year Zhejiang Geely Holding Group bought Volvo Cars from Ford Motor Company for $1,8 billion. This means, including Volvo Cars’ 191 560 sales in 2010, this Chinese company sold a total of 993 879 cars last year, making it the 19th biggest automotive manufacturer in terms of sales.
JIMS
On its stand, Geely South Africa will show three new cars that will be heading to our local shores next year.
Based on the Geely LC, the LC Cross will feature raised suspension, a roof rack as well as a new all-black interior. According to Geely South Africa, it will be introduced early next year.
Seondly, Geely will exhibit a B-segment hatch (see picture above) called the SC5 RV while the third and final new model to form part of the stand will be a D-segment sedan called the EC7 (also above).
All three of these models have acquired “5-star China N-CAP safety rating”. According to Geely South Africa, it is the EC7 sedan that has scored the “highest China N-CAP score by a domestic brand in Chinese crash history”.
