If you are fan of the all things speedy then you may have heard the name James Glickenhaus before. The one-time movie maker is well-known for the modernised Ferrari P4/5 recreation that he commissioned Pininfarina to build just for him.
That car went on to spawn a racecar, which Ferrari wasn’t too pleased about, but it didn’t seem to bother the (obviously) very wealthy car nut very much. Now he has more ambitious plans – to create his own Le Mans car for the road.
His earlier creations we based on existing Ferrari platforms, but for this exercise he has turned his Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus (SCG) into a fully fledged carmaker. He and his team of engineers/designers are busy putting the final touches on the SCG 003, an image of which they released earlier this week, ahead of its international launch at the Geneva Motorshow early next year.
The aim with this car is to have a car that can be driven to the racetrack, entered and raced in an endurance event, then driven away after the flag falls – lofty ideas indeed. Well, in 2016 SCG plans to do exactly that, drive the car from the firm’s Turin headquarters to the circuit at La Sarthe, turn it into a racecar and then after the race is over turn it back into a road car and drive it to a restaurant in Paris for dinner.
We can’t wait to the see the finished product.
