Gallardo number 3 000 has just rolled of Lamborghini’s Sant’Agata assembly line, surpassing the Diablo to become its best-selling model yet.
As the previous bestseller, Diablo had amassed record sales of 2 903 units over a decade before it was replaced in 2002 by the Murcielago. Gallardo, released in 2003, surpassed the Diablo’s record in under two years.
Built on an aluminium spaceframe chassis, the Gallardo is powered by a 5,0-litre V10 powerplant. With 373 kW on tap, the supercar sprints to from zero to 100 km/h in around four seconds.
The first Lamborghini built under the ownership of the Volkswagen Group, the Gallardo’s engine has been reworked for sister company Audi’s flagship S8.
