Michael Schumacher and Kimi Raïkkönen didn’t blink when the chips were down, and Juan-Pablo Montoya did.
The United States Grand Prix raises interesting questions about the “succession” to the German, who all but clinched a record-breaking sixth title at Indianapolis.
Schumi, in time-honoured fashion, rode out the bad moments and seized the advantages that came his way with both hands. Raïkkönen, with fewer positives to play with, did the same, and retained a faint hope of taking the title. Montoya, with the quickest car and the same rubber as his younger Finnish rival, fell apart.
Which suggests that the calculating Kimi, and not the mercurial Juan Pablo, is the hottest property among the young guns. – John Bentley
