Mitsubishi and design house Italdesign Giugiaro have together come up with a hydrogen-powered V8 SUV for the Geneva Motor Show next month.
The 2,5V SUV coupe, called Nessie, is a five-seat, two-door vehicle based on Mitsubishi’s Pajero platform. Italdesign Giugiaro says the V8 (with undisclosed displacement) is mated with an automatic transmission and electronically controlled all-wheel drive.
The hydrogen fuel system has been developed by the Linde Group and, since the vehicle is considered “clean”, Mitsubishi believes it to be the answer to increased calls to limit SUVs in cities and built-up areas.
The concept reveals dramatic styling with swooping shoulders and bulky wheel arches. The rear end, with imposing integrated dual tail-pipes, also features an angular taillight cluster design, and chrome inserts are used around the car to lend it urban street cred. One of the Nessie’s best design characteristics is the windows, which are set into the lower part of the side doors.
