It hasn’t yet made any significant contribution to motorsport, but they’ve just gone ahead and given it the big V anyway. That’s right, Nissan had finally taken the wraps off the GT-R SpecV – set to hit the Japanese market next month at the local equivalent of R1,7 million.
In an attempt to resurrect the V-Spec moniker (which has adorned the bodywork factory fast GT-R for nearly two decades), which often meant less weight and more power, Nissan’s engineers have fitted the car with a carbon fiber grille, carbon fibre brake ducts and a carbon-fibre rear spoiler. The only hue the GT-R SpecV is available in is “Ultimate Black Opal”.
The carbon fiber frenzy is continued in the interior, where two carbon fiber Recaro bucket seats are the first thing that meets the eye, and carbon fibre trim has also made its way onto the rear centre storage bin, instrument panel and other areas.
Although the 3,8-litre twin-turbocharged V6 that produces 353 kW and 588 N.m of torque hasn’t been touched, it has been fitted with a titanium-coated exhaust system and a new high-gear boost control device, which momentarily increases boost for greater torque in the “intermediate-to-high speed” ranges.
The SpecV is also equipped with lightweight forged aluminium wheels and carbon-ceramic brakes, as well as high-grip tyres and a unique suspension system for increased dynamic prowess.
