Sheridan Morias scored victories in both Superbike Championship races this weekend, cutting current points leader Shaun Whyte’s lead down to two points with four races remaining.
Round eight of the Superbike championship at Kyalami saw some nail-biting action as defending champion, Hudson Kennaugh, qualified in pole position for the first race on his Suzuki GSXR1000. He led through the opening part of the race, closely chased by Arushen Naidoo, Whyte and Morias.
Morias (First Technology Yamaha R1) went onto the offensive early in the race, passing Whyte and Moodley on successive laps. He then gradually chipped away at Kennaugh’s lead, before snatching it away with just one lap remaining.
Kennaugh and Whyte were left to claim steps two and three on the podium, while Moodley, Graeme van Breda, Trevor Crookes and Stewart MacLeod brought up the rear.
In race two, Morias was ahead of the pack from the second lap, though his every move was traced by his team-mate Shaun Whyte. Morias set the fastest lap time about halfway through the race and eventually crossed the line almost four seconds ahead of hard-chasing Whyte.
This time, Kennaugh had to settle for the lowest step on the podium, while van Breda, Crookes, MacLeod and Robert Cragg finished close behind.
