Nowadays, money is as much a prerequisite of Harley ownership as the possession of a leather jacket, tattoos, and possibly a Stahlhelm-styled crash helmet…but there is a value-for-money Harley waiting for you out there.Regarding my recent report on a few of the latest Harley Davidson motorcycles, I realize that these are expensive icons, but not all of them are out of reach to the average working chap or gal.
Until recently you could purchase a brand new 883 Sportster for R79 000, although the latest “budget” model is called the 883 Low, selling for R89 000. (Harley Cape Town have only one black 883 Sportster left at R79 000).These prices are on a par with many Japanese models. More down-to-earth and lighter than the “big” Harleys, it fits in well with town commuting and country cruising.
I think it looks just as good as the rest, but that’s a matter for the individual to decide. What I would do, if I was financially able to join the clan, is to locate one of the many second hand models available. Some of these have less than 5 000 km on the clock, even if they are a good few years old and are always meticulously looked after.
