Not content with the recent revision of its popular Getz range, Hyundai has added a new flagship model hatchback’s line-up in the form of a 1,5-litre turbodiesel.

The 1 493 cm3 common-rail direct injection engine produces 81 kW at 4 000 r/min and peak torque of 235 N.m from 2 000 r/min.

Mated with a five-speed manual gearbox, the Getz propels from zero to 100 km/h in 11,1 seconds and on to a top speed of 181 km/h. Fuel consumption for this Euro 4 compliant unit, on a combined cycle, is a claimed 4,6 litres per 100 km.

As before, the car rides on MacPherson struts at the front, and a torsion beam axle at the rear.

The new flagship model is fitted with all the features forming part of the range’s recent facelift, though, from the outside, it’s 15-inch alloy wheels and high-mounted rear spoiler set it apart.

The 1,5 Getz sells for R139 900 and the price includes a three-year/100 000 km factory warranty and a two-year/40 000 km service plan. Service intervals have been set at 10 000 km.
