The swoopy EV design is accompanied by a minimalist interior illuminated with cyberpunk neon-lighting. The Ioniq 6 is the Korean answer to the segment Tesla has dominated for so long.
There isn’t much to dislike about the groundbreaking swoopy EV design that embodies its exterior. The entire language boasts a minimal, clean aesthetic which we can get a closer look at without camouflage covering each panel and element for the first time. The soft, rounded lines which give it the illusion of it being an “electrified streamliner” are subtly broken by sharp design elements like the C-pillar window, front and rear lights.
The front end includes dark headlights which feed into bonnet linework that works its way up to the A-pillar while the mostly horizontal bumper elements are broken up by a single vertical feature under each headlight. The rear end boasts a pair of ducktail spoilers, one below the rear windscreen and the other above the single-strip tail light. If a Korean four-door Porsche 911 existed in the 964 Turbo era, it may look something like this although its retro and cyberpunk aesthetic mean that it looks every bit as modern as the powertrain that propels it.
Underpinned by the E-GMP platform that is also the fundamental of the Ioniq 5 and award winning Kia EV6, the new swoppy EV that is the Ioniq 6 comes with two electric motors with an expected output of approximately 224 kW. Official technical information will reportedly arrive on the 14th of July but rumours allude to the fact that it will come with a 77,4 kWh battery pack with single motor and performance-derivatives are also in the works.
Like the retro inspired pixel head and taillight accents, the interior also boasts a cyberpunk themed neon colour palette which is dominated by blue and purple. Not too much information on the interior is provided but based on the pictures we can see that the driver cluster and infotainment share a single bezel while the camera rearview mirrors are broadcast to screens within the cabin.
No pricing has been provided yet but considering this is Tesla rivalling and falls within Hyundai’s luxury oriented range, we can presumably expect it to fall within the same bracket that the Polestar 2 and Model 3 compete in.
