A shocked Ralf Schumacher maintains he didn’t cause the first-lap carnage at the German Grand Prix, and Williams-BMW will officially appeal against his 10-grid slot penalty with the FIA on August 19.
The British motorsport association will make a presentation on Williams-BMW’s behalf to the FIA’s International Court of Appeal in Paris on August 19 – four days before the Hungarian Grand Prix when the punishment is set to be enforced.
The German has remained unrepentant and says he is not to blame for the first corner shunt that eliminated him, Kimi Raikkonen and Rubens Barrichello from the German Grand Prix.
“I’m truly shocked,” Schumacher told . “I didn’t do anything wrong. I’m definitely not a Rambo. Seriously, I feel completely innocent.”
Williams-BMW team principal Frank Williams confirmed on Monday that the team intended to appeal against the penalty.
“We fully respect the authority of the FIA, and acknowledge their responsibility to protect the safety of those involved in the sport,” Sir Frank said. “However, we are using the appeal process provided for by the FIA to clarify all of the circumstances surrounding the incident, and the suitability of the penalty imposed.”
